Who IS "Dr. G Spot"?
John D. Perry, PhD
John was born in 1940, the first son of an Architect
and a Nurse, in New Britain, Connecticut. Shown here at 5 months, he did not have a
serious thought in his head -- except perhaps food. But his eyes were wide open,
foreshadowing an insatiable curiousity about the world around him. Also, his mouth
was open, a trait which would get him in trouble in later years.
By 1949, Dr. Alfred Kinsey was busy
collecting gynecologic data on the "lack of sensitivity" in the human vagina.
John was only nine years old, and didn't know what a vagina was, let alone why he didn't
have one. He was the owner, CEO, and Chief Service Technician at
"Johnny's Radio Service", which provided radio repair services to neighbors, but
mostly was a repository for tired old Motorola and RCA boxes donated by sympathetic
relatives and family friends.
In 1956, Masters and Johnson had decreed that
"All orgasms are the same" and the vagina was merely a passive receptacle for
semen. John, at 16, still didn't really know what a vagina was, but now he
knew he wanted one.
By 1966, John had
authored his first book, "The
Coffee House Ministry" (published by John Knox Press). Although he is still looking to the
right, he is starting to lean to the left. There is nothing in his first
book about sex.
By the time "The G Spot" was published in
1982, the transformation is complete. He is clearly turned to the left; the hair is much
longer, and the necktie hasn't been tightened in 10 years. Women from all over the world
wrote or called for advice about their vaginas.
In 1985
when AIDS became widespread, John switched from researching Sex to developing
better treatments for Incontinence. Here he is at a Medical
Convention, selling his biofeedback invention (pelvic muscle EMG sensor) to Doctors and Nurses.
He developed "The Perry Protocol" as an outline for effective
treatment, and presented his research
results at the 1988 Convention of the Biofeedback Society of America (now
the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback (AAPB).
Since
1995 John has concentrated his work on the internet, where he has two websites;
this one, and "InContinence On The Internet" (www.InContiNet.com)
which deals with incontinence, retention, pelvic pain and related medical
problems of the pelvic muscles. He was extensively involved in the
successful fight to gain Medicare coverage for biofeedback treatment of
incontinence in 2000.
